Battery Rebate Changes Are Coming

The Federal Cheaper Home Batteries program is changing, and rebates will drop after the deadline. To access the maximum subsidy—currently worth up to $336 per kWh—your battery system must be fully installed and commissioned before 1 May 2026.
What Changes After 1 May?
Lower Rebates
The base rebate value will fall as the STC factor drops.
Reduced Incentives
Batteries over 14kWh will receive a smaller rebate, with incentives for systems above 28kWh dropping sharply.
Ongoing Reductions
Rebates will continue to decrease every six months until 2030.
